Consumption of Espresso has increased greatly in the past decade across the world. Almost every block has a espresso café situated and there are scores of people consuming the flavoured drink. In book-stores, shopping malls, gas stations, movie theatres, etc. the list is endless. Many of us have been buying espresso machines for our homes and offices. Although, these are comparatively smaller in size than the commercial one, they both work on the same principle.
There are different types of espresso drinks that include cappuccino, latte, mocha and many more. Each shot of espresso coffee is produced by forcing 1.5 ounces of hot water through the tightly packed fine ground espresso coffee. The resultant liquid is dark brown in colour with some amount of cream on top. The taste and flavour of coffee depends on a number of factors, the temperature and pressure of water, the fineness of the ground coffee granules and how tightly they are packed. A perfect espresso maker is one that can get all the above stated factors in the correct proportion to match individual taste.
Though, most of the espresso machines available in the market today are pump machines, there are a few simple to operate machines as well. A simple espresso maker is consists of a funnel shaped metal that has a tube that extends up to the bottom of the reservoir. Water is poured in the reservoir and the top is closed tightly and the machine is kept on fire. On heating pressure is created that escapes through the coffee situated on top of it, which is then sent out through the tube. The major limitation of this machine is that the pressure depends on the temperature of water. The perfect brew, depends on getting the perfect temperature for generating right amount of pressure.
Another type of espresso maker is the pump styled one. Here, initially you need to fill the water reservoir and then switch on the machine. After the water has been heated to the correct temperature, the indicator light turns on. Now you need to add espresso grounds in the coffee container and tamp it. After this is done, you need to select the espresso mode and wait for a few seconds, while the spout delivers a steaming cup of your favourite brew with the perfect taste, flavour and cream. In case you need cappuccino, then the steam nozzle can be used as milk frothed. Hence with the pump styled machines, you do not need to know anything about espresso preparation technique. All you need to do is select and press the right buttons at the right time and in seconds your favourite brew is ready to be enjoyed.
